Inspiration: Daniel Fooks, Painter

I found Scottish figurative painter Daniel Fooks’ work through the annual BP portrait award competition 2011. Fooks is an excellent draftsman and has an unconventional way of using color when painting portraits that is memorable. Fooks describes his painting technique as similar to music with “each stroke, drip, or smudge orchestrated like layers of sound”, and so according Fooks the real subject of his work “is the feeling” it depicts.
